Reliability analysis of pantograph kinematic accuracy based on a combined fourth-order moment and Edgeworth series method

The pantograph kinematic accuracy error has a significant impact on the contact quality of the pantograph-catenary system and the durability of the equipment. To optimize the design of the pantograph and reduce the kinematic accuracy error, this paper proposes a reliability assessment method based on kinematic analysis. A mathematical model describing the spatial pose error of the pantograph is constructed, and then its limit state function is established. The model is utilized to derive the first four orders of accumulation for the pantograph's kinematic performance. By integrating the Edgeworth series and its correction formula, a system reliability assessment is conducted. By comparing with the Monte Carlo simulation results, it is verified that the described method has high accuracy and can accurately predict the performance of pantographs in actual operation, which can be used in the design of pantographs to avoid poor contact and to ensure stable operation of the electrified railroad system and the safety of the equipment.
