A Study of Job Competency Possession and Educational Needs of Students in the Department of Aviation Service by Grade: Focusing on Competency Required to Perform Flight Attendant
This study aims to identify the competencies required for airline cabin crew positions for 4-year college students majoring in Airline service, and to verify the possession and importance of these competencies to resolve the mismatch in education. To this end, a questionnaire for competency verification was developed based on expert opinions, and 248 out of 300 students from the 1st to 4th grades were surveyed, and the valid data of 205 students were analyzed using SPSS.
The results of the analysis showed that students showed high levels of communication and consideration competencies, and the importance of these two competencies was also highly evaluated. This indicates that students are continuously developing these competencies through various education and programs. On the other hand, although the possession of self-directed competencies and creative competencies is low, they recognize their importance, suggesting that an environment for the voluntary development of these competencies is necessary.
In particular, self-directed competencies in the 3rd and 4th grades have a high degree of educational inconsistency and high importance, so the development of curriculum and activities in these grades is urgent. Since the airline cabin crew job requires friendly service and clear communication for customers, students clearly recognize the need for communication and consideration competencies. In conclusion, it is expected that cabin crew members will be trained with the necessary qualities to adapt to the rapidly changing future society and to improve service quality by strengthening self-directed and creative capabilities.
