Effects of 12 weeks of jumping board Pilates on health-related physical fitness and lifestyle disease in obese women aged 30-40s

This study was designed to examine the effects of 12 weeks of jumping board Pilates on health-related physical fitness and surrogate indices of lifestyle disease in obese women. Twenty-one obese women, aged 30-40s, with a body mass index of 25 kg·m-2 or higher participated in the study. Participants in training group (TR: n=11) performed jumping board Pilates three sessions/wk, 44-52 min/session for 12 weeks, whereas participants in the control group (CON: n=10) maintained their usual lifestyle pattern during the same intervention period. Independent variables regarding body composition, health-related physical fitness, and lifestyle disease were measured and compared between pre-test and post-test as well as between TR and CON utilizing a two-way ANOVA with repeated measures. Main results of the study were as follows: 1) Regarding body composition, body weight, body mass index, fat mass, percent body fat, waist circumference, hip circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio decreased significantly in TR. 2) Regarding health-related physical fitness, maximal oxygen consumption, grip strength, sit-up, and sit-and-reach increased significantly in TR. 3) Regarding indices of hypertension, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, and rate pressure product decreased significantly in TR.<br/>4) Regarding indices of hyperlipidemia, LDL-C decreased significantly in TR. 5) Regarding indices of arteriosclerosis, TC/HDL-C ratio and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio decreased significantly in TR. Based on the aforementioned results, it was concluded that 12 weeks of jumping board Pilates was effective in improving body composition, health-related physical fitness, and the indices of lifestyle disease except diabetes mellitus in obese women, aged 30-40s

Based on the aforementioned results, it was concluded that 12 weeks of jumping board Pilates was effective in improving body composition, health-related physical fitness, and the indices of lifestyle disease except diabetes mellitus in obese women, aged 30-40s
