The article is a literature review of plans, decisions and activities of the Presidents of the Second Polish Republic in 1939 – Ignacy Mościcki and Władysław Raczkiewicz. It also embraces the role of political fi gures, who had the chance to take over the Presidency, i.e. Marshal of Poland Edward Śmigły-Rydz and Bolesław Wieniawa-Długoszowski. This paper is a part of research on origins, course and follow-up of the Polish Campaign 1939. It puts additional accents on constitutional aspects of the political situation that so farhad not been properly and thoroughly examined.
