Status and Prospects for Research on Non-Military Uniformed Formations in Poland (October 1938–October 1939)
The article focuses on two main issues. The first is the effort to evaluate already available historiography on non-military uniformed formations (State Police, Silesian Voivodeship Police, Border Protection Corps, Border Guard, Prison Guard and National Railway Guard). They had been organized and trained along military lines and were responsible for internal security of the Second Polish Republic. All organizations mentioned were subordinated to civilian ministries. The paper covers months before the outbreak of WWII and the time of the Polish Military September Campaign of 1939. It also presents research perspectives related to abovementioned structures.
