STYLISTIC FEATURES OF MUSIC FOR CHILDREN OF C. CUI (BASED ОN THE VOCAL CYCLE OF 17 CHILDREN’S SONGS, OP. 73)
At the beginning of the 20th century, César Cui made a significant contribution to children’s music, using the musical language of folklore and fairy-tale images. In this aspect, C. Cui’s work is connected mainly with four major opera works, such as “The Snow Bogatyr”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Puss in Boots”, “Ivan the Fool”. The theme of childhood is embodied in the composer’s music in pieces, small choirs and vocal cycles op. 13 and op. 73. The vocal cycle op. 73 is distinguished by individualisation and maturity of style, which generally corresponds to the aesthetic requirements of Russian culture of the early 20th century for the artistic education of a child and the comprehensive development of his/her personality.
