INTERPRETATION OF THE IMAGE OF CHINA IN ANTON M. LEGASHEV’S PAINTINGS
The creative activity of a number of Russian artists of the 19th century who worked in China as part of Orthodox missions attracts the attention of modern researchers. The paintings and graphic works of Anton M. Legashev are important in terms of analysing the vision of Russian painters not only of images associated with China, but also taking into account the cultural characteristics and artistic language of Chinese art. The appeal to the works of the Russian painter makes it possible to evaluate not only the interpretation and artistic embodiment of the images of China in the eyes of the foreign artist of the early 19th century, but also the transformation of the master’s impressions and ideas about this country during his creative life.
