Isolation and identification of some bacteria from urinary tract infection and relationship with interleukin-9

Aims: This study was conducted on patients suffering from urinary tract infections in Salah El-Din General Hospital and Tikrit Emergency Hospital from October 2021 until March 2022.Fifty urine samples were collected for both sexes.32 (64%) samples were taken from females and 18(36%) from males.Methodology and results: These samples were collected to verify the inflammation-associated bacterial infection. It was found that 40 samples (80%) were growth-positive, and ten samples (20%) were growth-negative.During laboratory diagnosis, 58 bacterial isolates were obtained from Gram-positive growth-positive samples.Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae represented the highest rate among all bacterial isolates isolated from patients infected with UTI and were at 26 (44.82%) and 18 (31.03%),respectively, followed by Staphylococcus aureus at 6(10.34%).In comparison, Proteus mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed the lowest and with the same rate at 4(6.89%).Most of the bacterial isolates (S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. Mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) were resistant to the antibiotics (amikacin 30 g, ampicillin 25 g, ceftriaxone 10 g, cefotaxime 30 g, co-trimoxazole 30 g and meropeneme 10 g) except for P. mirabilis, which had low resistance to the antibiotic's ampicillin, amikacin and meropenem.Studies have shown that IL-9 is essential in various physiological and pathological conditions, such as pathogen immunity, inflammatory sensitivity, and immune regulation. Our current study shows a significant increase in IL9 in UTI patients and the results of this study confirm such an increase. All the bacterial types in this study, S. aureus, E. coli, K. pneumonia, P. mirabilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, caused a significant increase in IL-9 levels (p-value>0.05) at 221.503, 243.278, 231.962, 251.056 and 215.689, respectively, compared with control (healthy people) at 70.237. Conclusion, significance and impact of study:The ultimate goal of the research is to isolate different bacterial types that cause urinary tract infections and their resistance to some antibiotics and the effect of bacterial infection and its relationship to the level of interleukin-9.This gives importance to the changes resulting from infection and the levels of interleukin-9.It also determines the importance of studying bacterial types and their antibiotic resistance.
