Molecular identification of Escherichia hermanii from different clinical samples in Mosul city, Iraq

Aims: This study aims to detect Escherichia hermanii by molecular methods and finds a natural substance to eradicate it effectively.Methodology and results: One hundred isolates of Escherichia spp.were obtained from different clinical sources (surgical wounds, burns and urine samples) and diagnosed depending on the classical method.Out of them, 10 were diagnosed as E. hermanii depending on the Vitek-2 diagnosis system. Two isolates were confirmed using molecular methods. After detecting carbapenems susceptibility using phenotypic and molecular processes, the results showed that E. hermanii lacks this enzyme.Annona fruit extract appeared highly effective on this species in 100 and 50 g/mL concentrations. The study uses the HPLC technique to determine the concentration of the active substance rutin (264.11ppm) in Annona fruit. Conclusion, significance and impact of study: Escherichia hermanii isolated from different clinical sources from Mosul city cannot produce carbapenemase enzyme and was sensitive to carbapenem antibiotics.Annona fruit is an additional treatment with appropriate antibiotics when infected with this bacterium.
