Research and Design of a Universal Memory Controller Based on the AMBA

With the advancement of system-on-chip (SoC) technology, memory controllers play a pivotal role in high-performance computing systems by bridging processors with external memory and ensuring efficient data transmission. However, existing memory controllers are often optimized for specific memory types, which limits their ability to handle diverse memory requirements. This research proposes the design of a universal memory controller based on the AMBA bus architecture, addressing compatibility challenges associated with managing multiple memory types and enhancing data transmission efficiency. By adopting a dual-bus architecture, integrating both the AXI and APB buses, the design allows for flexible configuration, supporting high-speed data transmission as well as low-speed peripheral access. Key findings demonstrate that the controller efficiently supports various memory types, significantly improves bandwidth utilization, and reduces power consumption without compromising performance. This study presents a novel technical approach to SoC memory controller design with broad application potential.
