High gain, wide band quad-circular slotted dodecagon antenna with artificial magnetic conductor for millimeter wave 5G applications

This article presents a high-gain, wideband dodecagon antenna for millimeter wave communication. A dodecagon antenna splits into two with rectangular slots. The novel structure is created by intersecting hexagonal and circular shapes. Four circular-shaped slots cut into the dodecagon improve the antenna's gain and bandwidth. This innovative structure is placed under three connected rectangular structures to manage its polarization states effectively. The antenna resonates at a frequency of 52 GHz, demonstrating an impressive |S11| of less than -12 dB along with a gain of 10dBi. The introduction of an artificial magnetic conductor with two rectangular structures united with circular and two convex structures and two other concave structures made the AMC structure resonate at 52GHz zero phase reflection at the 52GHz with 2GHz (from 50.2GHz -52.8GHz) bandwidth. They are integrating AMC with antenna results in the gain of 17.25dBi and |S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">11</inf>|<-35dB(51.5-53.8GHz) and 0.86 antenna efficiency and axial ratio 0.1 and a half power beam width of 40degree.HFSS simulates normalized radiation patterns and co-polarized and cross-polarized patterns of the antenna. The proposed antenna is a good candidate for millimeter wave communication, such as 5G communication and radar systems.
