CPW-fed Castle Shaped Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Anticollision Short Range Radar at 79 GHz

This communication describes the novel design of DRA (Dielectric Resonator Antenna) for millimeter-wave frequency band (76-81 GHz). The proposed DRA has been designed and simulated in CST studio suite simulation software. The DRA element is made up of Alumina material of size 6 × 6 × 2.5 mm3and dielectric constant 9.8 mounted on the substrate of Roger RT duroid material that is mainly used for high frequency applications. The simple DRA elements degrade antenna performance but after incorporating castle shaped engraving and CPW feed with microstrip line technique is enhance the performance. The proposed antenna is resonating at three different frequency 77, 78 and 79GHz with the highest gain of 11.5dB and directivity 11.8dB. The proposed antenna obtains 5GHz of wide bandwidth (75.4-80.4 GHz) with 94% radiation efficiency. Both the feeding techniques are resonating in such a way that it combinedly excite the proposed DRA. Hence, Castle shaped DRA perfectly suited for Anticollision SRR application at 79 GHz.
