Multi-Slot 41GHz Microstrip Patch Antenna with Hexagonal and Circular Stubs for 5G Communication

This manuscript proposes the design of an optimized microstrip rectangular patch antenna designed for 5G applications at a frequency of 41 GHz. The antenna is constructed with a 0.254 mm thick Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate (7×6×0.254 mm3) with a relative permittivity of 2.2. It features a rectangular patch precisely at the center of the substrate and is connected to the port via a feed line. To improve performance, we have incorporated hexagonal stubs at the bottom corners, circular stubs at the top corners, and one at the top center, along with more hexagonal, circular, and rectangular slots inside the rectangle patch. The antenna's reflection coefficient, VSWR, impedance, gain, and radiation pattern were all considered to achieve the highest possible efficiency. The proposed design has a resonant frequency centered at 41.09 GHz with a return loss of -36.73 dB, according to analysis done using Ansys HFSS (High-Frequency Structure Simulator) software. The optimized antenna has a bandwidth of 1.38 GHz and high gain performance, peaking at 3.37 dB at 41.09 GHz. This makes it ideal for 5G applications, providing improved performance and dependability for fast wireless communication.
