Compact Wideband SIW Based Slot Antenna for X-Band Applications

A compact and wideband substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based slot antenna is designed and developed in this work. The designed antenna utilizes half TE<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">110</inf>, odd and even TE<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">210</inf> modes of rectangular substrate integrated waveguide cavity for wideband radiations in 7.55 GHz-10.95 GHz frequency band with an FBW of 37%. These modes can be brought closer to each with the perturbations of a pair of vias in the SIW cavity. The detailed operating principle of the designed wideband antenna is also presented. The designed structure can be used for X-band wireless systems due to its large FBW, excellent gain, and good radiation characteristics.
