Compact Ring Shape Dual-band Monopole Antenna for mm-wave application

This article presents a compact ring-shaped dual-band monopole antenna with wide bandwidth, operating at the 18.2 and 27 GHz frequencies. The design integrates the radiating element and ground plane modifications, enabling dual-band operation throughout the millimeter-wave spectrum. The proposed microstrip patch antenna is designed on Rogers RT Duroid 5880 substrate, with a dielectric constant of 2.2 and a thickness of 0.787 mm. The proposed antenna demonstrates enhanced performance in reflection coefficient (<-10dB), wide bandwidth, good impedance matching, high return loss reaching-31.42 dB, radiation patterns, and constant gain. The lower band resonates at 18.2 GHz within the frequency range of (14.74 - 21.77) GHz, achieving a peak gain of 2.3 dBi. The resonance of the upper band occurs at 27 GHz within the frequency range of (25.03 - 28.87) GHz, producing a peak gain of 4.6 dBi. These characteristics highlight the system's suitability for 5G/6G millimeter-wave cellular communications and lower 6G band applications.
