Dielectric Resonator-based Quad-Port MIMO Antenna with Pattern Diversity for INSAT-C Application
This study investigated a dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) featuring a quad-port configured with multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology. The arrangement consists of two cylindrical dielectric resonator antennas (CDRAs) mounted on the upper sides and two more on the lower side of an FR4 substrate. An aperture coupling via a microstrip line is employed to excite each CDRA. A perfect electrical conductor sheet between two DRs generates radiation patterns in multiple directions, providing excellent isolation of better than -35 dB between the antenna elements at a resonance frequency. The dominant mode of the antenna is HEM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">12δ</inf> at its resonant frequency of 7GHz. A square aperture excites the dielectric resonator, covering a key band for wireless standards, especially for Indian National Satellite System applications (INSAT-C). The calculated diversity parameters envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) and diversity gain (DG) demonstrate excellent diversity characteristics of the MIMO antenna.
