A Flexible Multiband Patch Antenna for WBAN Defence Application

A compact, low-profile, wearable antenna with defected ground is developed for X-band applications. This antenna takes advantage of the additional resonance generated due to the propagation of surface waves on DGS, providing high gain and wide impedance bandwidth. The antenna is flexible and conforms to the human body because it uses a polyamide substrate and copper tape conductors, allowing it to be hidden in clothing. The antenna has been simulated and tested and provides a maximum gain of 10 dB at tri-band frequencies of 7.99-8.36, 8.69-8.85, and 9.33-9.63 GHz. The antenna performs stable even during movements on the human body. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is much lower than the standard limit, indicating its safety.
