Design of Dual-Polarized Thin Profile Active FSSR with Switchable Transmission

This work introduces a dual-polarized broadband active rasorber/absorber with switching capabilities. It features a lossy top layer with a square loop and triangular elements to enhance absorption through better impedance matching with the underlying lossless bandpass layer. The bandpass layer consists of square unit cells with inward arrowhead slots forming an octagonal ring, diodes enable switching between reflection and transmission. Metallic vias, shaped as cylindrical quadrants, connect the diodes and are integrated with biasing lines. The design achieves an absorption bandwidth of 8.5 to 15.28 GHz (FBW: 70.68%) and a transmission band at 4.2 GHz with an insertion loss of -1.580 dB in rasorber mode, and an absorption range of 7.7 to 15.2 GHz (FBW: 65.5%) in absorber mode.
