A Dual-Band (39/47 GHz) Inset Fed Microstrip Patch Antenna with Advanced Slot Design for Enhanced 5G applications

This research paper presents a novel microstrip modified rectangular patch antenna having Ka-band and V-band applications. The software Ansys HFSS is used to create an antenna design resonating at 39.00GHz and 46.8 GHz (containing 47 GHz) with a peak reflection coefficient of -31.76dB and- 19.06dB, respectively. The introduced antenna design consists of interconnected circular, elliptical and rectangular slots, which also protrude in the feed line of the patch. It is designed on a substrate composed of Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 which is 0.254mm thick. It is a dual band design of bandwidths: 0.6GHz (38.7-39.3GHz) and 1.9GHz (46.3-48.2GHz). The design provides a good peak gain of 8.4dB and 5.63dB at the resonant frequencies of 39GHz and 46.8GHz, respectively (4.99dB at 47GHz). The overall size of the said antenna is 6 x 7 x 0.254 mm3. The antenna demonstrates excellent diversity performance, making it ideal for 5G devices and applicable in mobile networks and wireless technology. This paper also examines various parameters including the 2-D radiation patterns in the E-plane and H-plane, VSWR, reflection coefficient, impedance, gain, and efficiency.
