Analysis of Target Using FMCW Radar

This paper presents an analysis of target detection using FMCW radar technology. The fundamental principles of FMCW radar operation are discussed, including the generation of linear frequency modulated waveforms and the processing of received signals through range doppler processing techniques. Initially radar specifications were configured based on system requirements and then define the initial range and velocity of a moving target and then generate an FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) waveform which is a continuous wave at a frequency point, modulated over a period of time. The signal moves towards the target and a part of it is reflected. The radar will capture or receive the signal which is reflected from target and compare it with the transmitting signal to obtain the resultant signal, and then FFT operation is performed on the signal to convert the signal to frequency domain from time domain. Further a 2-D FFT is performed on the beat signal to generate a range doppler map. To eliminate the false targets in the RDM perform a cell averaging CFAR algorithm so that it detects the original target. This method successfully distinguishes between real targets and spurious signals by adjusting the detection threshold in response to the local noise level. The proposed approach's effectiveness in target analysis anddetection is demonstrated through simulations. The simulation results indicate that a read a real target is present at a distance of 100 meters.
