Lightweight Authentication Scheme for Underground Pipe Gallery WSNs using Physical Unclonable Function
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are flexible and reliable, capable of operating under low power conditions. Therefore, it can serve as an effective detection method for underground pipe gallery. During the detection process, the relevant data acquired by sensors needs to be transmitted through a public channel to an aggregator node, at which point the data face risks of leakage and tampering. To address this issue, we propose a lightweight authentication scheme for underground pipe gallery WSNs. Using Physical Unclonable Functions (PUF) as the core to simplify the authentication process and reduce communication and computation cost. In addition, we ensure that this scheme has compatibility with common encryption and decryption algorithms. Finally, we evaluate this scheme by informal security analysis and simulation experiments, the result shows that the proposed scheme can obtain excellent performance in terms of security, communication cost and computation cost.
