Software-Defined Radio for Communication Laboratory
Due to the higher cost of laboratory experiments and the requirements of every new equipment for an experiment, hence a portable setup is required which can also be configurable. In addition to other options, student-owned portable equipment makes it easier for students to engage in hands-on experiential learning and gives them the chance to flip the laboratory. Since the Software Defined Radio (SDR), seems to have the capacity to bridge the gap between these two extremes, the trend has so far had less of an influence on analog and digital communications. In this article, we will evaluate the advantages, disadvantages, and potential hazards of using the SDR in open laboratory and classroom settings. This paper presents the methods to incorporate the SDR in the classroom experiments.
