DGS-Based Circularly Polarized Patch Antenna with enhanced Bandwidth for 5G Applications
This work introduces a microstrip patch antenna for 5G applications that is circularly polarized, has slots, and a faulty ground structure. The designed antenna is printed on Rogers 5880 substrate with overall size of 60 mm × 60 mm × 5.8 mm. The circular radiating patch of antenna employes a coaxial feed and circular, L shaped and inverted J shaped slots. The antennas common ground is etched to form square and rectangular radiating slots. To generate circular polarization the combination of L shaped and circular shaped slots is etched out from the radiating patch. The determined frequency range over which the antenna operates effectively, as indicated by its impedance characteristics, is (1.395 GHz along the band 3.075 GHz - 4.47 GHz) which covers the entire n78(3.3 – 3.8 GHz) band the corresponding axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) is (560 MHz along the band 3.34 – 3.9 GHz) with gain greater than 6 dB.
