A Novel Single-Band Modified Rectangular Patch Antenna with Multiple Slot Configurations at 47GHz for V-Band Applications

This research article presents a novel microstrip patch antenna with multiple slot configurations, specifically tailored for 47 GHz V-band applications. The antenna improves bandwidth and return loss using a modified rectangular monopole with a mix of circular, rectangular, and elliptical slots. Designed and simulated on HFSS, it achieved a return loss of - 30.73 dB over a frequency range of 45.3 GHz to 49.1 GHz. It was built on a Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate with dimensions of 6 x 6.2 x 0.254 mm3 and a relative permittivity of 2.2. This paper also analyzes other parameters, such as the impedance profile, gain, VSWR, 2-D radiation patterns, and reflection coefficients, and discusses the design evolution in detail. The design is an effective alternative for V-band wireless communication systems due to its efficiency in gain and impedance matching.
