Effect of HA and CO 2 Gas on the Microstructure and Corrosion of Coatings Prepared by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation of Mg‐Nd‐Zn‐Ca Alloy

ABSTRACT Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is receiving more and more attention as a technique to improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys. In this paper, we investigated the preparation of surface coatings on magnesium alloys by simultaneously introducing carbon dioxide gas and hydroxyapatite (HA) into the electrolyte. The coatings were characterized using SEM, XRD, FT‐IR, and XPS. The results show that carbon dioxide and hydroxyapatite contribute to the growth of the film coatings. The kinetic potential polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy surfaces indicated better corrosion resistance in SBF solution. This method helps to generate smooth and compact coatings on the surface of magnesium alloys, which will provide broader prospects for magnesium alloys in future applications.
