Comment on ‘Modified intralesional aciclovir therapy in the management of recalcitrant palmoplantar and ungual warts: a case series of 14 patients’
In the recently published article by Agarwal et al., the efficacy of intralesional application of aciclovir combined with lignocaine was evaluated in 14 patients with treatment-resistant palmoplantar and ungual warts. The mechanism of action of intralesional aciclovir in the treatment of warts must be better understood in order to determine drug safety and optimal effective dosage. We believe that controlled studies with a larger number of patients should be conducted to evaluate aciclovir in the treatment of warts using different routes of administration.
