Innovative Design for Lower Limb Rehabilitation: Design a Smart Knee and Ankle CPM Device

Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) devices play a crucial role in rehabilitation following knee and ankle surgeries by promoting recovery and enhancing joint mobility. This research introduces a novel Smart Continuous Passive Motion (SCPM) device designed for knee and ankle rehabilitation, incorporating advanced technologies such as an Arduino Uno board and a stepper motor for precise, tailored therapy regimens. Unlike traditional CPM devices, the SCPM includes a real-time patient feedback system, enabling dynamic adjustments to rehabilitation sessions based on individual responses and progress. In addition to technological innovation, the SCPM focuses on enhancing user experience and accessibility. A user-friendly interface facilitates seamless communication between patients and healthcare providers, promoting active involvement in the rehabilitation process. Furthermore, the device is lightweight and portable, making it convenient for use in various settings, including at home. With its precise mechanical design, the SCPM delivers smooth, anatomically accurate motion to aid in restoring joint flexibility and range of motion. By extending its use to patients with neurological conditions, such as Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and stroke, the SCPM aims to improve rehabilitation outcomes, foster greater independence, and enhance quality of life.
