Intelligent Lighting Control for Harsh and Hazardous Areas

This paper provides an overview of the value of intelligent lighting control in harsh and hazardous areas. Poor or inadequate lighting is a leading factor in workplace accidents and injuries and this risk increases exponentially in classified environments. Intelligent Lighting Control Systems that offer dimming, scheduling, grouping, daylight harvesting, and occupancy sensing can help optimize lighting throughout a facility and provide the right amount of light at the right time. Apart from helping maintain a safe work environment, these digitally enabled luminaires can help maximize energy savings, meet corporate sustainability goals, and reduce maintenance costs and downtime. By monitoring luminaires remotely and using data and insights from Intelligent Lighting Systems to perform preventative maintenance, facility managers can ensure their luminaires will be serviced in planned maintenance windows before they fail – thus minimizing the time personnel spend in hazardous areas maintaining these luminaires.
