PLC-SCADA based Online Monitoring and Conditioning of Laboratory
The potential for energy savings in commercial buildings is significant, with international studies indicating a reduction of $\mathbf{2 5 \%}$ to $\mathbf{3 5 \%}$ through automation. In India, however, the adoption of automation in commercial buildings remains limited, primarily concentrated in industrial settings. This paper examines the implementation of automation in critical systems such as air conditioning and lighting within commercial buildings. Using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) as the preferred automation technology, this research outlines the design and deployment of a PLC-based energy-saving system. The integration of a PLC-SCADA framework for real-time monitoring and control is demonstrated to enhance system efficiency, optimize energy consumption, and enable proactive maintenance. The findings emphasize the economic and environmental benefits of adopting PLC-based automation in commercial buildings, highlighting its scalability and reliability. This study contributes to advancing automation practices in India’s commercial sector, encouraging broader adoption for sustainable energy management.
