Electrical Distribution System Optimization Using Reliability Analysis
This paper details a methodology to optimize electrical distribution systems using a production-based approach to electrical reliability in the Oil and Gas industry. The objectives of the optimization are to reduce downtime caused by electrical distribution outages, improve distribution system selectivity based on production impact maps, and reduce system power losses. This approach utilizes probabilistic electrical reliability analysis combined with Oil & Gas production data to optimize the distribution system topology by prioritizing production as opposed to electrical loads. A cost-effective solution for downtime reduction can be achieved by simulating different distribution system topology improvements. This can be done after adding field collected historical distribution equipment failure data, and wells and facility production data to existing electrical models. Additionally, a production impact map is created to optimize the location of protection devices (reclosers, fuses) prioritizing the protection of high producing sites.
