Delta firmware Update strategy for Automotive Electronic Control Unit
The automotive sector is undergoing a significant transformation towards interconnected and self-driving vehicles, underscoring the need for efficient and dependable firmware update systems to uphold vehicle safety, performance, and compliance with evolving standards. Delta update technology emerges as a promising solution, reducing data transfer and update durations by transmitting only the alterations between current and new firmware versions. This study delves into the integration of delta update technology within automotive firmware updates, accentuating its advantages, obstacles, and potential ramifications on vehicle upkeep and cybersecurity. Through a thorough examination and evaluation, we aim to provide insights on harnessing delta update technology to improve the effectiveness, dependability, and security of firmware updates within automotive frameworks. Executing a comprehensive firmware update poses a formidable challenge, considering that vehicles are in constant motion, traversing diverse geographical locations with varying telecommunication network conditions. Adopting a strategy of updating only the delta between the two software versions proves advantageous, conserving bandwidth, data resources, and, notably, time.
