Abstract 363: Paraclinoid Internal Carotid Artery Angioplasty is Associated with an Increased Risk of Vascular Injury
Anecdotal experience suggests that endovascular therapy for atherosclerotic stenoses of the paraclinoid internal carotid artery (ICA) may be associated with higher risks of vascular injury. We hypothesized that this may be due to the segment's anatomical complexity, including the curvature and presence of a rigid scaffold (dural rings and bony ridge of the clinoid) that transitions to the more flexible cisternal and subarachnoid segments of the ICA. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a retrospective review of our endovascular intracranial ICA interventions.
