Abstract 062: A Prelude to Neuroendovascular Surgery with an 8F Sheath and Balloon Guide Catheter: A Case Series
Trans radial access (TRA) is now commonly used for interventional procedures due to the superficial location and easy compressibility of the radial artery which decreases the risk of postprocedural complications compared to femoral access. Balloon guide catheters (BGCs) are commonly preferred for certain neurointerventional procedures such as mechanical thrombectomy and carotid stenting. There has been hesitancy to utilize BGCs with a trans radial approach due to fear of damaging either the artery or balloon as most 8F catheters are advanced bare back or sheathless because most hydrophilic coated radial sheaths max out in size at 7F. We aim to explore the safety of using a BGC through a relatively unknown hydrophilic coated 8F short sheath with specific attention to radial patency.
