Kobiety w wyborach do Senatu 15 października 2023 roku
The share of female candidates for the Senate in the years 1989–2023 ranged from 6% to 19%, reaching 19% in 2023 – which is the highest value in the history of elections to this chamber of parliament. However, the increase in the percentage of female candidates did not contribute to the increase in the percentage of female mandate holders in the 11th term Senate of the Republic of Poland, which remained at the same level, i.e. 19%. This means that in elections to the Senate in single-mandate constituencies, a higher volume of female candidates does not secure the election of more female senators. Therefore, a debate should be held on the introduction of systemic ways to increase the representation of women in the Senate.
