Fostering Future Planning Skills through the Tree of Hope Activity : A Literacy Initiative at Tanzil KG Lindungan, Selangor, Malaysia

The Tree of Hope program is a creative initiative introduced in Malaysia to assist children of Indonesian migrant workers in planning their future. Conducted as a case study at Tanzil Learning Center in Lindungan Village, the program involved 45 students from grades 1 to 4, aged 5-12 years. By combining lectures with hands-on activities, the program encouraged children to articulate their dreams both visually and verbally. The activities included watching educational videos about different professions, creating a wish tree, and sharing personal stories about aspirations. Findings revealed that the most favored professions were TNI (20%), Police (17.8%), Doctor (15.6%), Teacher (13.3%), and Firefighter and Pilot (each at 11.1%). This initiative not only enhanced the children’s motivation and self-confidence but also fostered an engaging and enjoyable learning atmosphere. Additionally, it effectively provided psychological and social support to the children while cultivating a sense of community geared toward achieving shared goals. Through its innovative approach, the Tree of Hope program has made a meaningful impact on the growth and future prospects of Indonesian migrant workers’ children in Malaysia.
