Exploring The Impact Of Stuttering On Mental Wellbeing And Physical Health With Special Reference To Impact Of Yoga In Enhancing Communication Skills
Stuttering is a complex speech disorder that affects communication fluency and can significantly affect an individual’s mental well-being and overall health. People who stutter often face social anxiety, low self-esteem and stress, which can lead to emotional distress, isolation and difficulties in various aspects of life, including professional and personal interactions. Yoga, focusing on mindfulness, breath control, and body awareness, has been recognized for its potential to reduce stress, anxiety, and physical tension—all of which can contribute to improved speech fluency. By promoting relaxation and mindfulness, yoga offers a holistic approach to managing the emotional challenges of stuttering. This paper reviews existing literature on stuttering’s psychological effects, the health implications of chronic stress related to communication difficulties, and the therapeutic benefits of yoga practices. It also highlights case studies and research that suggest yoga can help individuals with stuttering by improving posture, breath control, and relaxation, thereby fostering more confident and effective communication.
