Development of Changemaker Education Program for Food & Nutrition Units in Elementary Schools
This study developed a changemaker education program for food & nutrition units in elementary schools. This involved reviewing relevant literature on changemaker education and analyzing content related to food & nutrition education in the 2022 revised Practical Arts curriculum. Based on this analysis, a changemaker education program applicable to food & nutrition education was developed. The results of the study are as follows: First, an analysis of the relationship between food & nutrition education in the 2022 revised Practical Arts curriculum and changemaker competencies revealed a strong link between food & nutrition education and empathy, teamwork, collaborative leadership, and problem-solving skills. Secondly, the program's goal is: “To understand the importance of a balanced diet and the necessity of sustainable diets, to practice healthy eating habits and sustainable diets, and to grow as changemakers who enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities.” Thirdly, an 18-session changemaker program was developed, centered around two themes: “Healthy Eating Habits Start with Me” and “Building a Better Tomorrow with Sustainable Diets.” The program employed four stages: identifying problems, finding solutions, taking action, and spreading impact. Specific learning objectives and activities were outlined for each theme.
