Feasibility Study of SuperSUN Solar Power Plant for Enhanced Electrification and Sustainability in Remote Regions
Currently, the electricity needs of the Liukang Tupabiring Utara District are met by generators, as there is no conventional electricity grid due to the district's geographically challenging and remote location, consisting of small islands. Establishing a PLN electricity distribution network in this area is considered inefficient. This situation is of particular concern regarding the electrification ratio target in Pangkep Regency, which is set at 100% for 2024, with a realization of 99.78% as of 2023. Indonesia's electricity needs are largely supported by conventional fossil fuel power plants, which are depleting and emitting CO2 pollutants. To increase the electrification ratio in 3T areas (Lagging, Leading, and Outermost) and reduce CO2 emissions, environmentally friendly power plants are needed. This study aims to analyze solar energy utilization using the SuperSUN model by calculating solar energy values, comparing economic investment values, and assessing the feasibility of using the SuperSUN solar power plant in Pangkep Regency. The research method is quantitative, with data collected through field observations covering the local community's electricity needs and meteorological conditions (temperature, sunlight intensity, and wind speed). The modelling was then carried out using PVSyst 7.2 software. The results showed that the total solar energy produced in one year is 1,088.7 kWh, with a Performance Ratio (PR) of 0.381 and a Solar Fraction (SF) of 0.991. Regarding investment, SuperSUN is more efficient than communal solar power plants. Based on the feasibility study, the SuperSUN solar power plant is viable for meeting the electrification ratio target and supporting the Net Zero Emission program.
