Design of IoT-Based Ground Resistance Monitoring and Control Systems

The grounding system has an important role in securing electrical equipment, humans, the environment, and the surroundings from excessive voltage spikes by flowing electric current to the ground as the neutral point. Based on PUIL 2011, the maximum ground resistance is 5 ohms therefore electric current can flow. However, natural conditions sometimes allow the ground resistance to exceed 5 ohms. The impact of weather changes such as rainfall also affects the effectiveness of the grounding system. Therefore, this paper proposes the Design of an Internet of Things-Based Ground Resistance Monitoring and Control System, which is useful for maximizing preventive measures against the threat of lightning strikes and other disturbances as well as monitoring and controlling the value of ground resistance automatically to facilitate the performance of humans or operators in the field. The resulting system error is 3.03 %, and the system precision is 0.16 %. From the test results, it is known that the tool functions properly to reduce the value of ground resistance, and this value can be monitored by IoT.
