Leveraging Serverless Computing in Edge C2
The edge-based command and control system (Edge C2) serves as a crucial complement to the traditional centralized command and control system. In Edge C2, computing devices have relatively constrained resources and computing request patterns have a high degree of dynamism. When leveraging cloud computing to facilitate computation tasks in Edge C2, those traits must be carefully taken into consideration. Compared to other traditional cloud computing paradigms that require heavily user-managed pre-allocation of various resources, serverless computing can more effectively utilize the limited resources of edge devices and handle highly dynamic computation demands. In this paper, we analyze the advantages of using serverless computing in Edge C2 scenario and design simulation experiments to compare the performance of serverless computing with traditional cloud computing with static pre-allocation of resources. Results show that serverless computing has better performance with regards to resource utilization, thus a more suitable fit for the computation requirements of Edge C2 scenario.
