Substrate Integrated Waveguide Based Multiband Antenna Array for Midband 5G and IoT Applications

The fifth generation (5G) wireless applications and the Internet of Things (IoT) require multiband connectivity with high gain and wide bandwidth to enable reliable and efficient communication. In this paper, we demonstrated a new S-shaped high gain antenna array design loaded with stubs and integrated with a low profile Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) which provides multiband operation, enhances gain and bandwidth while reducing losses. The proposed antenna is designed and, fabricated on a Rogers's 5880 substrate. The results of prototype antenna show that the antenna works in five different bands with a maximum bandwidth of 620 MHz (13.2 - 13.82 GHz) and, the minimum return loss of - 21 dB at 6.92 GHz. The proposed antenna achieves a gain of 9.3 dBi and, verified through testing in anechoic chamber and using vector network analyzer. The achieved results indicate that the proposed antenna can be used for mid band 5G applications requiring multiband connectivity, high gain and wide bandwidth, and also suitable for IoT and, C, X and Ku bands applications.
