Vibration Detection and Analysis of GIS Equipments in UHV Substation

Gas-insulated metal-enclosed switchgear (GIS) offers advantages such as a small footprint, high operational reliability, and long maintenance intervals. As a result, its application in power systems has become increasingly widespread. Despite the high reliability of GIS equipment, insulation and mechanical defects or failures still occur during operation, often leading to wide-scale outages that are difficult to repair. In this paper, we conducted on-site vibration signal detection and analysis for a noisy GIS device at an ultra-high voltage (UHV) substation, while also performing comparative tests on normal devices. The results indicate that during normal operation, the vibration signals of GIS mainly consist of 100 Hz and its harmonic frequency components. In contrast, the vibration signals of the noisy GIS show a significant increase in high-frequency components and a more complex spectrum. Therefore, the proportion of high-frequency components and the complexity of the spectrum can serve as characteristic parameters for diagnosing anomalies in GIS equipment. This provides a reference for defect diagnosis and condition monitoring of UHV GIS devices in the field.
