Exploration of a UAV Interception System Based on Electromagnetic Railgun Technology

The proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has led to an increase in airport incursions, exposing limitations in current countermeasures. This study proposes a novel UAV interception system utilizing electromagnetic railgun technology, addressing the need for effective counterUAV solutions in civilian airports. The system employs a highvelocity projectile launched via an electromagnetic railgun to facilitate the soft capture of intruding UAVs through kinetic energy transfer. This approach enables the recovery of both the captured UAV and the projectile, enhancing airspace security while preserving evidence for subsequent investigation and technical analysis. The proposed system’s significance extends beyond aviation, with potential applications in counter-terrorism, event security, critical infrastructure protection, and military defense.
