A Survey of Beam Management Schemes for LEO Satellite Communication Systems
Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems have emerged as novel interference management strategies that can meet the demand for connections anywhere and anytime by providing extensive coverage and guaranteeing service availability, continuity, and scalability. However, the existing LEO satellite systems with fixed beam radiation patterns can incur significant discrepancies between the requested and allocated capacity. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate an extensive review of beam management for LEO satellite communication systems, covering its architecture, optimization algorithm, and a range of promising applications. Specifically, we have thoroughly explored state-of-the-art beam management algorithms such as beam pattern optimization and multi-beam allocation. Additionally, we offer meticulous discussions on future research challenges in beam management to inspire further studies on LEO satellite-assisted next-generation wireless communication systems.
