T-DMB Receiver Implementation Based on Open-Source Software Suite

T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) is one of the first digital television technologies designed for handheld mobile receivers, and it remains in service in Korea nearly 20 years after its introduction. However, unlike other broadcast technologies, there has been no free and open-source software capable of T-DMB signal decoding and video playback. This makes it difficult to understand and study the currently deployed broadcasting system without expensive test equipment, reducing the overall accessibility of the technology. In this paper, we present a T-DMB receiver based on GNU Radio and FFmpeg, offering flexibility for modification, testing, and integration with other tools or platforms. It can decode signals received with a low-cost RTL-SDR dongle and play video in real time, making it a practical solution. Using this receiver, we successfully decoded actual broadcast signals and investigated their compliance with the standard.
