Plane Wave Generator Design for Base Station Testing at FR3
Plane wave generator (PWG) generates high-quality plane waves in quiet zone (QZ) by optimizing the excitation weight vector, achieving over-the-air (OTA) testing of the device under test (DUT) at a small distance. It becomes challenging to test DUT in far-field (FF) range with the increase of frequency and the application of massive antenna arrays. PWG has aroused widespread interest in achieving FF testing conditions for DUT at very small distances. In this paper, we design a PWG for base station testing at frequency range 3 (FR3) and analyze the impact of different element layouts. Three frequency points within FR3 are selected for PWG design and the quality of plane waves within QZ is analyzed in detail. The amplitude ripple and phase ripple are of PWGs are 0.59dB and 8.67°, 0.6dB and 8.5°, 0.67dB and 7.94° at 8GHz, 16GHz, 24 GHz, respectively, which satisfy the requirements of PWG design.
