Enhanced Seamless Multi-Device Experience Across Different Ecosystems
Having a seamless multi-device experience on cross platform technology (including phones, laptops, watches, headphones, automotive infotainment systems, speakers, TVs and others) is quite challenging in today's world where the number of devices people use is steadily increasing often leading to complex, nonintuitive, and frustrating user experiences. While these devices might be individually smart, they do not connect or communicate well with each other. Multi-device Experience (MDE) aims to provide a seamless user experience across MDE-enabled devices irrespective of the device operating system or ecosystem. MDE is focuses on managing the dynamic nature of context information exchange, ensuring context data and properties are exchanged reliably regardless of user mobility, device activity, and many other factors. When the information is exchanged across multiple devices, each device receives encrypted or unencrypted messages. Hence, message filtering (MF) is an essential task to reduce the additional processing overhead. This not only enhances the user experience by improving latency but also significantly improves the battery life of the MDE-enabled devices. We evaluated the power and performance of MDE with message filtering algorithm enabled over wide variety of test cases/applications. Results show huge power savings (~85%) on MDE-enabled devices in a broadcasting scenario with 5-remote devices. The significant power savings achieved helps to bring down the battery impact-DOV (Days of use: Depends on individual per day usage) from 4.7% to 0.7% on over all SOC.
