Fast Attention-Based Beam Search for Wireless Communications

This paper proposes novel fast beam search algorithm for 5G/6G millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication systems. Existing beam search methods that rely on received power beam measurements to identify the optimal beam in the beam space suffer from long search times due to their exhaustive search nature and potential misdetection under channel impairments. In contrast, the proposed algorithm that leverages Received Attention Strength Indication (RASI) beam measurement offer a means to overcome the limitations of existing methods. Simulation results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed algorithms compared to conventional methods in terms of both search time and misdetection rate.
