Study of Teaching Writing Focusing on Outlines through Outline Reconstruction
The purpose of this thesis is to suggest a way for learners to improve their competence to form the text structure and logic of writing and to discuss the effects by presenting an alternative for outlining instruction. For this, it analysed several previous theses and four writing textbooks on outlining and critically examined what approaches they took on it. Based on this, it proposed a process in which the outline reconstruction of an example text was going on step by step from whole outline to paragraph outline, and it showed that through this process learners could be taught to read and write texts prescribing the relation between a paragraph and another paragraph and between a sentence and another sentence. Also, it stressed outline reconstruction can give a help in achieving a sense on not only the logical structure of whole texts but also precise sentence writing with no surplus by providing a model of outline instruction in which learners could move from correction and reconstruction in an example text into their own outlining and writings with authorship. The value of this study is to suggest a working outline instruction model that can help the learners efficiently learn the connectivity of outlining and writing and practically recognize that the process of outlining and writing together would be a tridimensional and circular one.
