Conceptualizations of the Term in the Media Discussion on the Text by Marcin Kącki

The primary goal of the article is to demonstrate how a text becomes a tool of violent action – what determines this, the importance of the discourse around the text, what tools the author uses to gain dominance. The material basis for our research is Marcin Kącki's article My Journalism – Alcohol, Failed Therapies, Women Badly Loved, Neglected Daughters and Fear of the Dawn, which appeared on Wyborcza.pl on January 5, 2024, as well as the media discussion including subsequent publications (up to and including January 15, 2024), which are reactions to Kącki's text. Analyzing the discourse with all its aspects (participants, texts, media roles, etc.), we found that the violence in Kącki's publication can be considered on three levels – textual (violence by processing), broadcasting (violence by diminution) and receiving (violence by making public).

Abstract

The primary goal of the article is to demonstrate how a text becomes a tool of violent action – what determines this, the importance of the discourse around the text, what tools the author uses to gain dominance.
